THE ROLE OF MEDITATION
To The Modern Mystic, Meditation is defined as “sitting on purpose.” For us, what distinguishes meditation from drinking in your daily dose of silence, as recommended in Chapter 1, is that meditation requires a certain type of attention. There must be something that the individual is meditating, “upon.” Perhaps it is a mantra. Perhaps it is a mental image. Perhaps it is what’s going to happen tomorrow… You can meditate upon anything. Architectural design, or food, or peace, or the nothingness of non-being. Sky’s the limit. It’s your meditation! Do with it what you will. Sow the seeds that you will reap. Hopefully they’re sweet.
One meditation technique we teach here at the Red Rainbow is called Zero-Pointed Meditation. It has no particular goal or purpose, obviously, and is quite simple. All you have to do is look straight in front of you, and stare at the tiniest point in space you possibly can for as long as you can without looking away. You can practice this meditation whenever you feel like you need to. You’re welcome.
